Creighton Softball Adds Four Players For 2021 Season

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness announced the addition of four players who will join the program in the fall of 2020, as each officially committed this week.

Catcher and outfielder Elly Beeson (Omaha, Neb.), utility player Alyssa Gappa (Omaha, Neb.), pitcher Jena Lawrence (Albia, Iowa) and outfielder Emma Rosonke (Omaha, Neb.) will each join the Bluejays for the 2021 season.

Elly Beeson, Catcher/Outfielder, Omaha, Neb., Skutt Catholic HS
Beeson earned four varsity letters while playing for Skutt Catholic in Omaha.

The daughter of Tom and Lena, Elly helped the Skyhawks qualify for the Nebraska Class B State Championship in 2018 and 2019. Beeson also earned two district championships while playing under the direction of Keith Engelkamp at Skutt Catholic.

She also played at the club level for Nebraska Gold under coaches Scott Gerdes and Toni Closner.

Beeson also earned three varsity letters in tennis and claimed membership to the National Honor Society, National Art Honors Society and HOSA.

Alyssa Gappa, Utility, Omaha, Neb., Northwest HS
Gappa ended her four-year career at Omaha Northwest High School with a .535 batting average and 40 home runs, both of which are school records.

The daughter Frank and Stacy, Alyssa set a Class A state record .712 during her senior campaign with 42 hits and earned a spot on the 2019 Lincoln Journal Star Super-State team.

Gappa also owns Northwest’s records for triples in a season with seven in 2019 and home runs with 18 in 2018.

She helped lead Iowa Premier Gold to the 2019 PGF 18U Platinum national championship. Gappa hit a walk-off grand slam during to send her team to the semifinals of Nationals.

She also plays basketball at Northwest and helped lead the Huskies to the 2017 State Tournament.

Jena Lawrence, Pitcher, Albia, Iowa, Albia
Lawrence helped lead Albia to three consecutive Iowa Class 3A State Tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2017.

Jena hit a walk-off three-run homer in the regional final to lift the Lady Dees to the 2019 State Tournament.

Lawrence made the 2019 IGCA Class 3A All-State First Team after compiling a 2.49 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 140 2/3 innings pitched during her junior season. She also hit .485 with 13 doubles, three homers and 41 RBIs.

As a sophomore in 2018, Jena ranked fourth in Class 3A with 207 strikeouts in 164 innings and posted a 0.85 ERA.

Lawrence owns 759 career strikeouts during four years at Albia heading into her senior season in 2020.

She most recently played at the club level for the Southeast Iowa All Stars.

Emma Rosonke, Outfielder, Omaha, Neb., Burke HS
A two-time Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska First Team member and two-time Lincoln Journal Star Super-State team member, Rosonke posted a .506 average during four seasons at Omaha Burke.

The daughter of Brian and Jennie, Emma helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2018 Nebraska Class A State Tournament. Rosonke also set a Nebraska all-class record with a 36-game hitting streak.

During her senior season in 2019, she hit .483 with 15 extra-base hits, 35 runs scored, 13 stolen bases and 16 runs scored.

Rosonke also helped guide Nebraska Thunder Gold to a 67-5-2 record during this past summer on the club circuit.

Outside of softball, Emma earned All-State Second Team honors twice in basketball.

She is also involved with National Honor Society and Focus Academy.
