NEW YORK – The Creighton men’s basketball team will visit the University of Michigan on Tuesday, Nov., 12, as part of the fifth annual Gavitt Tipoff Games.

The Gavitt Tipoff Games features eight men’s basketball contests set for Nov. 11-14, 2019 between the BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences.  It is named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary.

Game times and television network assignments will be announced at a later date. All games will be televised on FS1 or BTN.

Among the 16 participating schools, 14 played in the postseason last year, including nine in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The nine NCAA participants are: Iowa, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Purdue, Seton Hall and Villanova. Ten of the 16 squads won at least 20 games last season.

Creighton went 20-15 last season, reaching the quarterfinals of the NIT, in its 21st postseason trip in the past 22 years. The Bluejays are coached by Greg McDermott, who enters his 10th season at Creighton with a 207-109 record.

Michigan went 30-7 last season, including a 17-1 mark at home inside Crisler Center. The Wolverines are coached by Juwan Howard, who was hired at his alma mater last week.

Creighton and Michigan have met twice previously, with the Wolverines winning 81-62 in Ann Arbor in 1962 and 83-76 (OT) in Orlando, Fla., in 2009.

The 2019 Gavitt Tipoff Games will mark Creighton’s fifth time participating in the Gavitt Tipoff Games. CU owns wins over No. 9 Wisconsin (2016) and Northwestern (2017), but has lost to Indiana (2015) and Ohio State (2018).

The Gavitt Tipoff Games schedule begins on Monday, Nov. 11, with DePaul visiting Iowa. On Tuesday, Nov. 12, each conference has a home game with Minnesota traveling to Butler and Creighton playing at Michigan. The slate for Wednesday, Nov. 13, is the busiest of the week, with three games, two at Big Ten sites.  Ohio State hosts Villanova, Northwestern hosts Providence and Purdue plays at Marquette. The Gavitt Tipoff Games conclude on Thursday, Nov. 14, with both BIG EAST teams at home.  Seton Hall hosts Michigan State and Georgetown takes on visiting Penn State.

Teams from both conferences already meet in some traditional rivalry games, and those matchups will continue in the upcoming seasons.
