OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness released the 2020 schedule on Thursday, Dec. 12.
The Bluejays are set to play in five nonconference tournaments and host 15 games, including 12 home contests against conference opponents. The team will play six different teams that made the 2019 NCAA Tournament, including Super Regional host and ACC power Florida State.
Creighton opens Vigness’ 27th season with 33 games away from Omaha, before the squad’s first home game of the new decade on March 27 against Providence.
The Bluejays start the season on Feb. 7 against defending MAC tournament champion Toledo in San Antonio, Texas during the H-E-B Classic, hosted by Incarnate Word. The team is scheduled to play five total games in San Antonio.
Creighton returns to Texas the following weekend for four games over two days at the North Texas Invitational (Feb. 14-15) and heads to Nashville, Tennessee to play four games in the Tiger Classic, hosted by Tennessee State, on Feb. 22 and 23.
The Bluejays close out the first month of the season at the Coach B Classic in Carbondale, Illinois. The squad will play five games on the campus of Southern Illinois, including one against former MVC rival and 2019 NCAA Tournament participant and host SIU.
Creighton will spend the first part of March in Florida for 12 games over the course of nine days during THE Spring Games. The Bluejays will start their trip in Longwood, Florida from March 6-8 with games against LIU, Bethune-Cookman, Florida State, Cleveland State and Longwood, before heading to Madeira Beach (March 11-14) for matchups with Niagara (doubleheader), Indiana, Central Michigan, Merrimack College, Central Connecticut State and Quinnipiac.
The Bluejays start BIG EAST play on the road against Seton Hall, March 20-22. New for 2019, the BIG EAST schedule will consist of three games over three days.
Creighton’s first home game is scheduled for March 27 against Providence. The Bluejays and Friars will also play on March 28 and 29 at the Creighton Sports Complex.
The Bluejays also welcome DePaul (April 3-5), Villanova (April 17-19) and Georgetown (April 24-26) for league games during the month of April, while hosting South Dakota State (April 1, doubleheader) and Nebraska-Omaha (April 22) in midweek non-conference tilts.
Creighton’s remaining April schedule includes trips to New York (St. John’s, April 9-11), Brookings, South Dakota (South Dakota State, April 14, doubleheader) and Lincoln (Nebraska, April 28).
The Bluejays end the regular-season with a three-game set against Butler in Indianapolis (May 1-3).
The 2019 BIG EAST Softball Championships will take place May 7-9 in Rosemont, Illinois. The tournament will feature a four team double elimination format for the first time since realignment (four team single elimination tourney from 2014-19).
