STROMSBURG – It was a Cougar sweep in Crossroads Conference basketball action Thursday evening, as the Cross County Cougar girls and boys grounded the Hampton Hawks by nearly identical scores. In the opener, the Cougar gals opened an early 22-8 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 63-25 win. Cross County (4-1) was led by freshman Shyanne Anderson’s 15 points. Senior star Erica Stratman scored 12, while senior Cortlyn Schaefer added 10. Sophomore Lillian Dose scored 7 points to pace Hampton (2-4).
The nightcap followed the same script, as the Cougar boys led wire-to-wire, bolting to a 47-15 halftime advantage, and rolling on to a 62-26 victory over Hampton. Senior Isaac Noyd dropped in five treys for Cross County (5-0) and led all scorers with 19 points. Freshman Tyrone Capek scored 9 for Hampton (1-5).
