The Central Community College mens basketball team lost in overtime to Southeast Community College, 91-88, at Raider Fieldhouse on Friday night.
CCC led by as many at 16 points in the first half before SCC rattled off a 32-11 run to lead 44-39 at halftime. The second half was close throughout and with under a minute to go in regulation, the Raiders were up 80-78 when the Storms Labeck Warren tied the game at 80 with two free throws. CCCs Trevion Crawford missed a three-point bucket with 25 seconds, while SCCs Bo Russell missed a game-winning shot with two seconds, forcing overtime.
In the extra session, the Storm built a 90-85 lead with under a minute play when Crawford nailed his fifth three-point basket of the game to pull the Raiders to within two, 90-88. CCC had one shot left to send the game into a second overtime when the Storm missed a free throw with 3.9 seconds to play. However, CCCs Roman Behrens missed a game-tying three-point shot at the buzzer.
“Im proud of how we came back. Im proud of how we adjusted, but overall we just made too many mistakes,” said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf.
Tre Mikkelsen led the Raiders with 26 points, while Crawford totaled 23 points. Behrens logged a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while John Glover rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.
The loss is the second straight for CCC, which is now 13-10 on the season.
The Raiders are on the road Tuesday night for a meeting with York College JV. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
The Central Community College womens basketball team made it four wins in a row with a 62-56 home win over Southeast Community College on Friday.
The Raiders got off to a hot start and built a 16-point lead in the first half en route to a 34-24 halftime advantage. At one point during the first half, CCC hit four consecutive three-point buckets.
In the second half, the Lady Storm mounted a comeback and tied the game at 52-52 with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Two minutes later, the score was deadlocked at 54 apiece when CCC took off on an 8-2 run to post the six-point victory.
“Im really proud of the girls for the effort,” said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. “The girls did a good job of grinding when we needed to grind.”
Jasmine Williams led the Raiders with 19 points, while Monica Brooks finished with 15 points. Sarah Monahan tallied 12 points, which included a pair of three-pointers.
“(Monahan) has been playing pretty good solid basketball,” said Perkins. “She has earned a captains spot and so I am very proud of Sarah.”
The win gives the Raiders a 10-10 mark for the 2019-20 season.
CCC returns to Raider Fieldhouse on Tuesday to host Concordia University JV. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
