The Central Community College womens basketball team lost at Johnson County (Kan.) Community College, 83-61, on Monday night.

However, the Raiders gave the top-ranked Cavaliers quite a test.

CCC fell behind by double digits in the first quarter but rebounded in the second period and trailed 40-35 at the half. In the third quarter, JCCC outlasted CCC 21-19 to lead 61-54 heading into the final stanza. The Cavaliers clamped down on defense and held the Raiders to seven points in the fourth quarter to take the 83-61 victory.

“We did not back down,” said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. “We played as a team and with great effort. I am very proud of our team.”

Brittney Veik led the Raiders with 22 points, while Macey Thege scored 15 points. Nyamiri Blair scored 12 points off the bench to round out the double-digit scoring.

Central is 3-15 on the season.

The Raiders will close out the regular season on Saturday with a home game against Southeast Community College. CCC will look to avenge an 83-52 loss at SCC last month. Saturdays tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.
