The Central Community College women’s basketball team snapped a two-game slide with an 81-59 home win over Midland University JV on Monday night.

The Raiders set the tone early by outscoring the Warriors in the first period, 25-12. CCC’s defense held Midland to six points in the second quarter, paving the way for a 46-18 halftime lead. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors whittled the CCC lead down to 15 points, 70-55, at the 4:05 mark, but that’s as close as it would get.

CCC scored 46 points in the paint and held Midland JV to 26-percent from three-point range (11-43). The Raiders owned the glass as they outrebounded the Warriors 53-23, with 19 of them offensive which led to 20 second-chance points.

“We started the game out strong by getting the ball inside and taking advantage of our size,” said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. “We rebounded the ball very well and got some easy buckets in transition. Defensively, we played well in both our man and zone and communicated well.”

Two CCC players logged double-doubles. Madisen Jelinek scored 24 points and hauled in 14 rebounds while Nikie Nelson scored 11 points and collected 11 rebounds. Amy Mitchell scored 22 points.

The win gives the Raiders an 8-9 season mark heading into Saturday’s contest at Southeast Community College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in Beatrice.
