CCC Men and Women lose at Southeast

Jayden Byabato missed a game-tying shot with two seconds remaining as Central Community College men’s basketball lost at Southeast Community College, 75-73, on Saturday.

The Raiders led at halftime, 40-37, and the game remained close in the second half. With two minutes remaining, Central was up 73-70 when Southeast tied the game with an old-fashion three-point play. SCC’s Much Biel scored on an offensive rebound to put the Storm up 75-73 with 1:22 to play. The Raiders missed three shots over the next minute but got the ball back when SCC’s Kofi Hamilton missed an attempt with 21 seconds to play. Byabato’s attempt hit the front of the rim and the clock ran out.

Dwight Glover scored a career-high 32 points to lead all scorers, while Byabato finished with 16 points. Tredyn Prososki scored 13 points and Emarr Vinson pulled down 14 rebounds.

“I was really proud of our effort, especially with how banged up we were,” said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. “Some of the guys saw heavy minutes in positions they don’t usually play, so I’m proud of how we responded to some adversity. Dwight really carried us offensively. Tredyn and Jayden did some good things too.”

The loss gives the Raiders a mark of 6-8 on the season.

CCC will return to the court on Friday with a home game against North Platte Community College. The Knights beat the Raiders, 82-60, on Jan. 29. Friday’s tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Central Community College women’s basketball team lost at Southeast Community College, 83-52, at Beatrice on Saturday.

The Storm set the tone early by outscoring the Raiders in the first quarter, 24-9. Central bested Southeast in the second quarter, 17-12, to trail 36-26 at the half. The Storm had a strong second half to pick up the win.

“Southeast got in their shooting rhythm in the third and fourth quarters and we just could not overcome their scoring runs,” said CCC head coach Billy Perkins.

Nyamiri Blair led CCC with 17 points, while Bailey Lehr hauled in 10 rebounds.

With the loss, the Raiders are 3-10 on the season.

CCC will resume action on Friday with a home contest against North Platte Community College. The Raiders will look to avenge an 81-79 loss to the Knights in January. Tipoff for Friday’s game is set for 5:30 p.m.
