February 24th, 2020 | Beth Rogers

The Central Community College softball team split its season-opening double-header at the Raider Softball Complex on Saturday.

The Raiders are 1-1 on the season.

A short recap of both games is below.

Game 1

CCC exploded with nine runs in the sixth inning to post a 10-6 win over the Hawks.

Catcher Ragan Wood scored a pair of runs off two hits and recorded an RBI.

CCC pitcher Lilly Cast picked up the win as she faced 19 batters over 4.1 innings. Kierra Stewart took the loss for Northeast.

Game 2

The Hawks returned the favor by posting a 13-8 win over the Raiders in the nightcap.

Northeast logged a pair of runs in the first and second innings while CCC was quiet until the third inning when it scored three runs. The Hawks went up 11-3 with five runs in the sixth inning and coasted to the win.

CCCs Nevaya Metcalfe and Larisa Rother each scored two runs, while Sydney Breinig recorded three RBIs.

Liberty Josoff took the loss for the Raiders.

“I could tell nerves were getting in the way and we were watching a lot of pitches throughout both games,” said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. “Moving forward, we need to be more aggressive at the plate and not watching as many strikes go by. I am very proud of the adjustments we made in the sixth innings of both games, but we have to be able to adjust quicker.”
