Cadets Win in Exciting Season Opener at Arlington

ARLINGTON – The West Point-Beemer football team opened the season with a 34-29 season opening road win at Arlington on Friday night, August 30, in action heard on 107.9 The Bull.

The Eagles scored on two of their first three offensive possessions of the game, and took a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Cadets finished off a 65-yard drive to open the second quarter on a three yard run by Edgar Rodriguez. The PAT was good and the score was 13-7.

WP-B went on to score on their next two straight drives, a one-yard run from Arturio Barrios and an eight-yard pass from Jesus Barragan to Keegan Doggett, and the Cadets took a 22-13 lead into halftime.

The Cadets then opened the third quarter with a 29-yard touchdown run by Alejandro Edeza, and the Cadets led 28-13 with 10:50 in the third.

Arlington drove all the way down to the WP-B seven, but were turned away on fourth down.

WP-B was forced into a safety on the next drive, giving Arlington two points and the ball back, and the score was 28-15 in favor of the Cadets.

Arlington then scored on the next drive after the safety, cutting the score to 28-22.

The Cadets scored for the final time in the game with 4:32 left to go on a one yard run from Barragan. The two point conversion was no good, and West Point-Beemer led 34-22.

The Eagles marched 71 yards and pulled within one possession, at 34-29 with 2:30 left in the game.

The Cadets were able to run out the remaining clock, preserving the 34-29 win.

West Point-Beemer starts the season 1-0 and host Boys Town next week.
