The Briar Cliff volleyball team took down College of Saint Mary in a closely contested match Friday night with a 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9) victory over the Flames.

“This is a great win for us over a national tournament team from last season,” said head coach Lindsey Weatherford.

Grace Hanno was all over the court for the Cliff, putting down a team high 19 kills, recorded 14 digs, and assisted in two blocks. Chloe Johnson and Toria Andre were the two other Chargers to finish with double digit kills with 14 and 11 respectively. Andre was efficient with an attack percentage of .417. Tannah Heath was the teams leader in digs with 21 and two service aces. Madilyn Wagaman and Maureen Imrie shared the setting duties with Wagaman leading the Cliff with 29 assists and Imrie dished out 28.

Grace Hanno was reliable as always, coming up huge in big moments and playing tough offense and defense,” noted Weatherford.

The Briar Cliff defense had 13 blocks compared to six by College of Saint Mary. Sami Wasmund had three solo blocks and four block assists. Andre had the second most blocks for BC with one solo block and five block assists.

Toria Andre was outstanding and does not play like a freshman,” said Weatherford “She has been working very hard to become a multi-dimensional player and that really showed tonight.”

BC is back at the Flanagan Center tomorrow as they host Mount Marty at 1:30 and Northwestern (MN) at 5:30.
