The Briar Cliff women’s volleyball team traveled to Mitchell, South Dakota Friday night to face #16 Dakota Wesleyan. The Chargers fell in four sets to the Tigers (17-25, 27-25, 10-25, 13-25) and move to 4-5 (0-2 GPAC) on the season.

“Moving forward we need to continue to minimize our own errors,” said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. “Our middles went up against a strong middle attacker from Dakota Wesleyan in Ady Dwight, regardless they were still able to contribute to our offense.”

The Chargers stayed with the Tigers in the first set, trailing 9-11 after a Toria Andre kill but DWU would take control of the set with a 5-0 run.

The second set saw three lead changes and the score tied four times, with the Chargers taking their first lead off an Andre kill. Holding a 10-9 lead, the Chargers outscored DWU 9-2 to extend their advantage to eight points. However, the Tigers would claw back to take a 25-24 lead. An Olivia Petersen kill followed by back-to-back blocks from Andre and Alexis Johnson would close out BC’s set two win.

The Tigers took early leads in set three and four and didn’t look back, closing out the contest with a 3-1 win.

Alexis Johnson paced the Cliff with nine kills and added five digs. Andre put down five blocks and took part in seven blocks. Sami Wasmund tallied five kills and three blocks.

Chloe Johnson had a team-high 26 digs to go with six kills. Emma Porter dished out 26 assists while Tannah Heath had 21 digs.

The Chargers head to Ottawa, Kansas next Tuesday for a pair of games against Kansas Wesleyan and Ottawa. First serve against the Coyotes is set for 3 p.m.
