Briar Cliff swept by Dordt

The Briar Cliff womens volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-19) against Dordt tonight at the Newman Flanagan Center. The Defenders improve to 9-5 on the season and 8-5 in GPAC play, while BC drops to 8-12 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

BC .056 in tonights contest with 27 and 21 errors on 107 attempts, while Dordt hit .191 with 40 kills and 19 errors on 110 attempts. The Chargers recorded 45 digs, 26 assists, six blocks, and two aces in the game with Dordt notching 49 digs, 37 assists, five blocks, and two aces.

“Dordt is a really tough team who has a fast offense that we found difficult to stick with at times,” said head coach Lindsey Weatherford “Other times our defense was able to stifle them with our blocking and digging.”

Grace Hanno led the Charger offense with seven kills on 28 attempts. Chloe Johnson and Toria Andre were second with six kills a piece. Maureen Imrie was the assist leader for the Cliff with 13 and Madilyn Wagaman recorded 11. Hanno was also the team-high leader in digs with 10, followed by Tannah Heath with 7. Imrie also recorded six digs and two service aces. Sami Wasmund led the defense in blocks with four and Tyra Blue rejected three attacks.

“As a team we have improved drastically since the last time we matched up against Dordt,” said Weatherford “We saw a more fluid offensive and defensive effort tonight and our young athletes are starting to put things together at the right time of year.”

Briar Cliff will visit Concordia on Friday night. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. in Seward, NE.
