Briar Cliff splits two high scoring affairs at Peru State

Briar Cliff baseball split a nonconference doubleheader with Peru State Monday in Peru, Nebraska. There was plenty of offense in the matchup with Peru State taking game one 16-18 and BC winning game two 33-21.

Peru State jumped out to an early 10-0 through two innings, but the Chargers responded in the third with eight runs. BC added three runs in the fourth, four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Bobcats scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to take game one. Both teams notched three home runs in game one.

Jake Federico went 3-for-6 with two homers and five RBIs. Jake Allen totaled five RBIs and went 2-for-4 from the plate with one home run. Five Chargers tallied multiple hits and six drove in at least one run.

In game two, Briar Cliff scored four or more runs in six out of the seven innings. BC tallied seven home runs in the contest and Peru State had nine homers. Alex Kremer gets his second win of the season on the mound for the Cliff. Mike Anthony had a monster game, going 4-for-6 with two home runs, three runs, and 11 RBIs. Connor Lange went 2-for-2, scored three runs, and had six RBIs. Trevor Adler recorded three hits, five runs, and drove in three runners.

Briar Cliff will now look ahead to a four-game weekend series with Morningside. Saturday’s doubleheader is at Lewis and Clark Park, while Sunday’s contests will be at Bishop Mueller Field.
