BC baseball hosted Peru State Tuesday afternoon in nonconference action at Bishop Mueller Field. The Chargers split with the Bobcats, winning game one 6-2 before dropped game two 14-5.

A four-run second inning was the difference for the Cliff in the first contest. Connor Lange got the Chargers going with a double to left to score Jared Sitzmann and put the first run on the board.

Graham Palsma served as a courtesy runner for Lange and was driven in by a Matt Hmiliewski single that also put Denton Porter in scoring position on third. Hmiliewski stole second to put himself in scoring position as well, and both base runners crossed home thanks to a wild throw by the Peru State shortstop.

The Chargers extended their lead to 6-0 in the fifth frame. Darnell Prince tallied an RBI single to score Jake Federico and Harrison Jestel scored on a missed catch by Peru State.

Both Bobcat runs came in the sixth innings, one unearned as a result of a Briar Cliff fielding error.

Jestel led the Chargers in game one with two hits. Kyle Steinborn earned the win for Briar Cliff, throwing four innings and giving up one hit and two walks. Drew Petersen and Ryan Pearson both came in in relief for the Cliff.

Jake Hubbard takes the loss in game two for Briar Cliff. He gave up four runs, all earned, in 1.1 innings on the mound. Sitzmann, Matthew Delgado and Jake Allen all went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI each.

The Cliff will get back to GPAC play Thursday with a doubleheader at Jamestown.
