Briar Cliff Baseball loses doubleheader to Vikings

Charger baseball traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a pair of games against NCAA DII opponent Augustana Tuesday. The Cliff fell in both contests to the 2018 National Champions by scores of 7-0 and 9-3.

The Vikings put up three runs in the first inning and two each in the second and third frames to down the Cliff. BC held Augustana scoreless the remainder of the contest, but the Chargers could not get themselves on the board.

Kyle Steinborn takes the game one loss for Briar Cliff. He pitched one inning of the contest and gave up three hits and three runs (two unearned) while striking out three batters. T.J. Egbarts allowed the other four runs in two innings of work and Tyler Williams threw the final three frames.

Six Chargers registered one hit in the game one loss.

BC did crack the scoreboard in game two. The team plated one run in the first inning and two in the seventh, but allowed nine Augie runs for the loss.

Brady Harpenau reached first on a walk as the leadoff batter in game two. The next two batters moved him to second and then third base, and Harpenau finished his trip around the bases on a Darnell Prince single to center field.

The Vikings scored one run in each of the first three innings of the contest, then scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth en route to the sweep.

Prince and Mike Anthony each recorded on RBI in the loss. Jacob Wesselmann is tagged as the losing pitcher, giving up five earned runs with three strikeouts in four innings on the mound.

The Chargers now look ahead to the GPAC season. Briar Cliff is scheduled to host Concordia Saturday and Doane Sunday at Bishop Mueller field. Both doubleheaders are set to being at 1 p.m.
