After starting the season 0-2 and also missing out on some game last week due to bad weather in Lexington, the Scottsbluff softball team picked up their first win of the season on Thursday night.
Scottsbluff used the big bats in the middle of their order to be their chief rival, Gering, by the final of 9-4.
It was the heart of the lineup for Scottsbluff that came through at the plate with Brady Laucomer, Taylor Klein, and Maddie Johnston combining to go 8-11 with 7 RBI’s. Johnston hit her first home run of the season as part of the 9 run effort for Scottsbluff.
Klein provided a big boost, not only with the numbers, but also by just being in the lineup. It was her first game of the season after bouncing back quickly from an ankle sprain last week.
Kymber Shallengberger performed well in the circle for the Bearcats, tossing a 7-inning complete game that included four strikeouts.
Gering got multi-hit nights at the plate from Kiana Island and Brylee Dean and leadoff hitter Madi Wiese drove in a pair of runs.
Wiese took the loss in the circle for Gering, she pitched six innings and allowed nine runs (only four were earned) while striking out eight.
Scottsbluff will play again tomorrow with a doubleheader at Chase County while Gering’s next game will come next Tuesday at home against Chadron.
