The Briar Cliff softball team earned its fifth sweep of the 2021 season Tuesday with a pair of wins over GPAC opponent Dordt. The Chargers walked off game one, winning 4-3, and won game two 5-2. Mailee Jensen is credited with the pitching win in both contests.
Westercamp reached base in the seventh on a bobble by the Defender shortstop and advanced to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Mailee Jensen. She made the move to third on a passed ball, setting up Andersen’s game-winning single to left.
Briar Cliff got things going in the second inning with three runs on three hits. Kylee Lukes led the Cliff off with a walk, and Aubrey Chichurka got on with a base-hit bunt. Rachele Heaton moved Lukes and Chichurka into scoring position with a ground out, and Lukes reached home on another passed ball.
The Defenders came back within one by putting up two runs in the third and tied the game at three-all with one more in the sixth.
Jensen gave up five hits and three earned runs in her seven innings of work. She struck out eight batters and allowed zero walks. Andersen was 2-for-4 and was the Chargers’ only multi-hit players.
Alexis Westercamp played a key role in the Chargers’ game-two win as well. She hit a game-winning two-run bomb dead center to put BC ahead 4-2 in the fifth. Lauren Kouri, pinch running for Chichurka, added one more run in the seventh.
The Cliff moves to 21-23 with an 8-14 GPAC mark. The team will host Dakota State Wednesday in a nonconference doubleheader.
