Clarkson/Leigh senior Kayden Schumacher announced in mid-December that she will be playing volleyball at Southeast Community College in Beatrice.
During her senior season with the Patriots, Schumacher recorded 200 kills, 45 ace serves, 37 blocks and 335 digs.
The season was highlighted with Clarkson/Leigh qualifying for the Class C2 State Volleyball tournament, and making it to the semifinals, while finishing fourth overall with a 22-9 record.
“My senior year was by far my best year. I was a captain, so that was nice. And then we made it farther than we’ve ever made it as a program, so that was really fun,” Schumacher said. “Just a lot of memories with our teammates, and it was really fun.”
Schumacher explains what drew her to SCC.
“Their coach is amazing. She is a really big sweetheart, and I could tell right away, we just kinda clicked and I knew that I would really like it there,” Schumacher said. “I didn’t actually get to go to the campus because of Covid, but I got to do a virtual visits. And I saw the campus and there’s a lot of new buildings, and I just thought they had a lot of great opportunities for learning, and a lot of their building and other things that they had kinda drew me to there as well.”
Schumacher also considered Central Community College, Northeast CC and North Platte CC.
Schumacher said that while she loved her time in high school, she is looking forward to the upcoming experiences at the next level.
