Pender Boys Basketball Standout Sam Mailloux is headed to Midland next season. Mailloux scored his 1,000th career point Thursday night against Winnebago. “Oh yeah that was awesome. Last home game of the year. I really wanted to get it that night, knew I was close, and I’m glad I was able to do that. Unfortunately we couldn’t come out with a win. We led most of the game, and they took the lead with about 6 seconds left, and it was a tough one, but yeah I was really glad to get it at home.”
Mailloux says the team hopes to make a good push in Districts and have a chance to go to state.
Mailloux says Midland is a great fit for him. “Just really on my visit to Midland I really enjoyed talking to the guys, they like came to lunch with me, and I bonded with them. I love the coaches there. They’re always up in you, all up in your grill, and very enthusiastic and stuff. And I just like what they’re doing down there at Midland.”
Mailloux says he plans to play power forward at Midland, and has played center for the Pendragons.
He also drew interest from Briar Cliff, Doane, Morningside, and CCC.
Mailloux says he plans to major in Accounting.
He is the son of Terry and Carri Mailloux.
