Oakland-Craig Football Standout Mike Brands has signed with UNK. Brands tells KTIC Sports he chose the Lopers over a number of NSIC Schools, including Wayne State.

Brands says he went with UNK based on familiarity and Academics.

Brands, who also participates in Track for the Knights, says it was a no brainer to do Football in College.

Brands will play Linebacker for the Lopers.

Brands, who helped lead the Knights to a State Title and two State Semifinal appearances in his 4 years, says it was quite the ride at Oakland-Craig.

Brands was a part of Oakland-Craigs State Championship Team in 2019 and State Semifinal Teams in 2018 and 2020.

Brands will get to play a game on UNKs Field prior to the start of his college career as he has been selected to take part in the 63rd annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl on Saturday, June 5th at 6:00 p.m.

The game will be broadcast on 840 KTIC, Classic Country 98.3 and Classic Country 98.7 FM.

Brands will be majoring in Construction Management at UNK. He is the son of Ted and Tami Brands.
