HOWELLS – The BRLD and Howells-Dodge Boys and Girls Basketball Teams got together for a Doubleheader in Howells Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull with the Wolverines winning the girls game 58-42 and the Jaguars winning the boys game 59-56 in Double Overtime, snapping BRLDs 55-game winning streak.
In the girls game, the Wolverines tripled up the Jaguars 15-5 in the 1st quarter and outscored them 15-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-14 lead into the locker room.
Both teams scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter, and BRLD led 43-27 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 15 points in the 4th quarter.
Caragan Tietz led BRLD with a game-high 20 points while Jordan Snyder was also in double figures with 18. Alyssa Buchholz added 8.
Blair Fiala had a team-high 11 points for the Jaguars while Abbey Pieper notched 8 and Janessa Schmidt 7.
Howells-Dodge falls to 3-4 on the season and is back in action at Clarkson/Leigh on Saturday while the Wolverines improve to 3-1 and host Pender Tuesday night.
In the boys game, the Jaguars had upset on their mind having handed BRLD their last loss in the 2018-2019 season, and history repeated itself Friday night.
The game was all BRLD early as the Wolverines led 13-8 at the end of the 1st quarter, and outscored Howells-Dodge 19-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-20 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars had a big 3rd quarter, outscoring BRLD 16-6 to make it a 38-36 game at the end of 3 with the Wolverines still leading.
Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 9-7 to tie the game at 45 at the end of regulation.
Both teams scored 8 points in the first overtime, and the game went into Double OT deadlocked at 53.
The Jaguars doubled up BRLD 6-3 in the second overtime.
Blake Sindelar poured in 40 points for Howells-Dodge, which led all scorers. RJ Bayer added a dozen while Lance Brester chipped in 7.
For the Wolverines, they were led by Dylan Beutler, who had a team-high 23 points. Lucas Vogt and Elliot Nottleman compiled 10 apiece in the losing effort for BRLD.
Howells-Dodge improves to 3-4 on the season and travels to Clarkson/Leigh on Saturday while BRLD falls to 3-1 and takes part in the Louisville Holiday Tournament on December 29th and 30th.
