YORK- During Tuesday morning’s York County Commissioners meeting the board agreed to allow a conditional use permit for Hirschfeld Family Farms for a chicken raising facility. The raising operation would have a capacity of 760,000 broilers. With the number of the chickens being raised in the rural York area, a conditional permit was required due to the county’s zoning regulations. The facility will be located on a plot measuring 160 acres.
No one spoke against the conditional permit or the operation in general.
There was some concern about the amount of travel on the rural roads, as Harvey Keim, the County Highway Superintendent said, “The road will get wear and tear from the trucks, the road will need upgrades.” The primary route will be on Highway 81 to Benedict, then the county blacktop for five miles and a 3/4 of a mile stretch north on a county gravel road.
The entire board voted for the conditional use permit and support was immense for this project.
