West Point Schools And Oakland-Craig Among Schools To Close

March 16th, 2020 | Chris Cottrell

The West Point Beemer and Oakland-Craig school districts are among some of the latest districts to decide to cancel classes because of the effort to control the spread of the  coronavirus.

West Point will hold classes today (Monday) with no after school program.   Then schools will be closed for approximately two weeks. ESU 2 last night , based on  guidance from Three Rivers Health, is recommending all schools in their area close tomorrow.

St. Paul Lutheran School and GACC in West  Point will also have school today and then close tomorrow.

Oakland-Craig also announced last night theyll be closing for about two weeks.

No cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Cuming or Burt counties.

Heres the letter posted on the West Point Beemer website Sunday night:

Tonight at approximately 9pm, I received an email from the ESU2. They are following guidance from Three Rivers Health. The State of Nebraska has elevated the risk assessment this evening and therefore it has been recommended that ESU2 area schools close Tuesday, March 17 for approximately two weeks. As you know this is a fluid situation and will continue to be monitored moving forward.

West Point Public Schools will have a regular school day on Monday March 16th where students and teachers will report to West Point to clean out lockers, get all personal items and computers checked out as we prepare for the unknown. Buses will run accordingly but there will be no after school program. This is unchartered territory for everyone involved and we will do our best to communicate through our traditional channels as we work to develop a remote instruction as well as a lunch program so we can continue to serve our students and families. All activities will also be suspended until further notice.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school. I am truly sorry for this late notice as this situation continues to rapidly change.

As you know this is a fluid situation and will continue to be monitored moving forward.

This is unchartered territory for everyone involved and we will do our best to communicate through our traditional channels as we work to develop a remote instruction as well as a feeding program so we can continue to serve our students and families. All activities will also be suspended until further notice. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.

I am truly sorry for this late notice as this situation continues to rapidly change.
