A report of a suspicious person with a weapon in the vicinity of a Scottsbluff elementary school prompted a school administrators to take precautionary steps during the midday Tuesday.
District officials issued notifications shortly after 11 a.m. of the situation near Roosevelt Elementary School, with preliminary scanner communications indicating a male had walked through the school parking lot with what a reporting party said was a handgun in their pocket.
Roosevelt Elementary was placed on lockdown and approximately 10 minutes later, all other schools moved into secure status with buildings locked but business as usual inside.
District spokesperson Melissa Price tells KNEB News the secure status was lifted about an hour later, but students at Roosevelt were being kept inside as a precaution until further notification from law enforcement. Bear Cub Preschool was scheduled to proceed with dismissal as usual.
