On Tuesday afternoon at about 2:10 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a semi accident on Hwy 57 about four miles North of Stanton, that sent the lone 50 year old driver to the hospital for treatment of a possible head injury.
The driver, Jamie Birkeland of Sioux City, IA was northbound on Hwy 57 when he lost control for unknown reasons and the semi and trailer flipped onto their side blocking the entire highway for more than 2 hours.
Birkeland was extricated from the wreckage and taken to FRHS by ambulance. Stanton Fire also responded to the emergency call and two heavy wreckers were needed to upright and remove the wreckage.
