On Tuesday morning, Dec. 29, the National Weather Service upgraded the Winter Weather Advisory affecting most of Nebraska, to a Winter Storm Warning.
The Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Nebraska counties of Thurston, Stanton, Cuming, Burt, Platte, Colfax, Dodge, Washington, Butler, Saunders, Douglas, Sarpy, Seward, Lancaster, Cass, Otoe, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee and Richardson, as well as the Iowa counties of Monona, Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont and Page.
Nebraska cities included in the Warning are Pender, Macy, Walthill, Winnebago, Stanton, West Point, Wisner, Tekamah, Oakland, Lyons, Decatur, Columbus, Schuyler, Fremont, Blair, David City, Wahoo, Ashland, Yutan, Omaha, Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Seward, Milford, Lincoln, Plattsmouth, Nebraska City, Tecumseh, Sterling, Auburn, Pawnee City, Table Rock, and Falls City
Iowa cities include Onawa, Mapleton, Missouri Valley, Woodbine, Logan, Dunlap, Harlan, Council Bluffs, Glenwood, Red Oak, Sidney, Hamburg, Tabor, Farragut, Clarinda and Shenandoah.
The Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6:00 am Wednesday morning, December 30.
The NWS says to expect Heavy mixed precipitation. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch.
Again, this is mainly for portions of east central, northeast and southeast Nebraska and southwest and west central Iowa.
Travel is not advised during the Winter Storm Warning. The NWS says road conditions will deteriorate today, making travel difficult.
