NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will be the site of a Paramedic Refresher course, sponsored by the Allied Health Department.

This course (EMTN 6295/19F & CRN #60234), will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, November 5-7, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

This is a 24-hour refresher training course that fulfills required content for recertification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic.

The cost of the class is $200 and includes a lunch buffet for the three days. Please note that there will not be another paramedic refresher course offered in January.

WEST POINT – A snowman-themed acrylic painting class is coming to Northeast Community College in West Point in November.

Acrylic Snowman Painting (ARTS 5163/19F & CRN #60149) meets Tuesday, November 5, from 6:30-9 p.m., in the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St. Room 212.

Participants will join instructor Vanessa Throener for a fun night of painting. The perfect way to enjoy a cool, fall evening, this class teaches how to mix and blend colors while painting a snowman on canvas.

No prior experience is required and supplies will be provided and included in the cost of the class, which is $35.

Participants are asked to bring their own aprons to protect clothing.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a basic internet course in early November.

Basic Internet (INFO 5140/19F & CRN #60352) will be held Wednesday, November 6, from 1-4 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center.

In this introductory course, participants will learn basic skills for using the internet safely. Topics covered will include using search engines effectively, browsing the internet, downloading vs. uploading, saving and storing information retrieved from the internet. Anti-virus software, firewalls and malware will also be discussed.

Cost of the course, with Stacy Anderson the instructor, is $30.

WEST POINT – Personal assistance technology can perform a variety of simple tasks, such as playing music, but it can also be used to control smart-home gadgets providing the ability to dim the lights, lock doors, or adjust the thermostat. An upcoming class at Northeast Community College in West Point will explain how the technology functions.

Home Smart Home (INFO 6295/19F & CRN #60107) will be held Monday, November 6, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., in the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St. Room 212.

If anyone is thinking about buying the technology or want to learn more about the system, this class will discuss which one is right system for a particular individual and what it may take to install and activate it.

Participants should bring their App Store user ID and password in order to join in the fun.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer another intensive six-week Professional Truck Driving course beginning in early November.

The course (TRDR 5100/19F & CRN #60114/60115) will be held Monday-Friday, November 7-December 20, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., in the Utility Line/Truck Driving building, Room 104, directly east of Northeast’s main campus in Norfolk.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane and interstate highways. The program includes 240 contact hours, 44-plus hours of behind the wheel training and 190 hours of classroom, lab and observation.

Students will go for night drives and long runs. This means being gone for a week, overnights and
14-hour days.

Cost for the course, with Ed Lewis and Ryan Cook the instructors, is $1,995. Tuition does not include the cost of books, Department of Transportation physical, drug screen, MVR report, learner’s permit or the CDL license. NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will hold a class soon that introduces students to photo editing with Adobe Lightroom software.

Adobe Lightroom Photo Editing (ARTS 5190/19F & CRN #60342) will meet Thursday, November 7, from 6-9 p.m., at the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

Participants will learn to perform editing and image processing and share their best images in a variety of creative ways. The class uses a hands-on approach, and all participants are asked to bring 10 of their photos to class on a flash drive as well as their own cameras. Instructor Elley Coffin will show participants some simple how-tos as they edit their own personal photos.

Cost of the class is $30.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class on Adobe Lightroom, beginning soon.

Adobe Lightroom (ARTS 5190/19F & CRN #60258) will be held two consecutive Thursdays, November 7 and 14, from 6-9 p.m., in the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St. Room 212.

In this introductory course, participants will learn how to take images out of their camera and edit them. They will explore how Lightroom presets work, how to edit their own images and how to add them to Lightroom. Participants will need to bring their own cameras to class along with a memory card with 10 of their own images on it.

Cost of the course, with Erin Beutler the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer another Heart Code – BLS for Healthcare Provider Online & Skills Session course, beginning soon.

The first portion of this course (HLTH 5300/19F & CRN #60073) is web-based and is available on-line
24 hours a day. The skills session meets Saturday, November 9, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., in Room 101 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

The Basic Life Support course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking. This course is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified AHA Instructor. When online Part 1 is completed, students will register for the Skills Sessions. Participants are to bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

Online key codes for Part 1 are available at the Hawks Shop in the Library/Resource Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Participants need to bring their AHA Part 1 Health Care Provider Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Cost of the class, with Ethan Larson the instructor, is $40.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code – Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.

Three testing sessions – Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/19F & CRN #60075); Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/19S & CRN #60074); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/19S & CRN #60076) will be held Saturday, November 9, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) – teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid – teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.

The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification. This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. Online key codes for Part 1 (online course) are available at the Hawks Shop in the Library/Resource Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. Students will need to bring their AHA Online Course Completion Certificate (within 60 days) to be admitted to the Skills Testing Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Cost of the testing session, with Ethan Larson, is $54.50.
