Nevada poet to read at first Northeast Visiting Writers event of the semester

NORFOLK, Neb. – An author from Nevada will be featured during the first Visiting Writers Series event of the spring semester at Northeast Community College.

Gailmarie Pahmeier will read from her work during a virtual presentation on Wed., Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. Her presentation may be viewed through Zoom at northeast.zoom.us/j/5864654319.

Pahmeier, who teaches creative writing at Sierra Nevada University and the University of Nevada, Reno, has lived most of her life in “The Silver State.” Both universities have recognized her with various teaching awards, including the University Distinguished Teacher Award at UNR. Widely published, her work has received a number of awards, including a Witter Bynner Poetry Fellowship, an Academy of American Poets Prize, and three fellowships from the Nevada Arts Council.

Pahmeier is the author of three chapbooks and two full-length collections of poetry, including The Rural Lives of Nice Girls. In 2015, she was appointed Reno’s first Poet Laureate, while a year later, she was inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame. She was selected as Nevada’s Outstanding Teacher in the Humanities in 2017.

Pahmeier’s appearance is sponsored by the Northeast Community College English Department through its Visiting Writers Series. All events are free and open to the public.
