A rural Scotts Bluff County man is facing felony charges, accused of threatening campers, their kids and pet earlier this month at Lake Minatare.

Garry Zika is charged with four felony counts of terroristic threats, and a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace following investigation of the incident at South Gate Beach.

The victims told investigators Zika was fishing near their campsite August 4 and became very belligerent, yelling at them and passing jet skiers, then approached the campsite yelling at the adults about getting rid of their kids, who had been swimming, and their dog. Witnesses confirmed the story, saying the 49-year-old suspect was making threatening gestures with his arms and stomping toward the camp during the incident.

Officers arresting Zika this past Friday say he yelled at officers after they entered his home and actively resisted being taken into custody, leading to the deployment of a taser and several minutes of struggling before he could be placed into handcuffs. A separate charge of resisting officers was filed involving Zika’s arrest.

He was scheduled for arraignment on the charges Monday afternoon in Scotts Bluff County Court.
