Friday Afternoon Grass Fire Highlights Dry Conditions

Damage was minimal from a rural grass fire Friday afternoon, but officials say it highlights dry conditions that could lead to a worse result.

Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Chief Paul Reisig says the department was called out shortly before 2 pm to a pair of farmsteads on North Street, responding with four fire trucks and eleven firefighters.

Reisig says it took about an hour and a half to knock down the flames, which caused between $500 and $700 of damage to fencing, but fortunately no structures were burned, and there were no injuries.

Reisig tells us the blaze was started when high winds were able to reignite a controlled burn that was several days prior.
