Businesses, organizations and individuals committed to safety and wellness were honored Thursday at the Gering Civic Center during the annual Panhandle Safety and Wellness Conference and Awards.

The Nebraska Safety Council honored Panhandle Co-op and the Parker Corporation with the Council’s 2018 Spirit Award for commitment to rigorous wellness programs.

Safety Council Director Lisa Henning told attendees companies and organizations that commit to safety and wellness make a difference in people’s lives. “We know there’s a financial gain to this, but at the end of the day this is about people. We’re proud of our members, we have many in the room today. Your documented behavior changes and culture advances have made a significant difference in the lives of your people,” said Henning. “Congratulations to all the winners, as well as everyone in the room today. You’re making a wonderful commitment to the advancement of health and safety.”

The Panhandle Public Health District and Chadron Community Hospitals each received the Governor’s Wellness ‘Grower’ Award, and Banner County Schools picked up their ‘Sower’ Award.

Rachel Johnson, Volunteer Services Director for Northwest Community Action Partnership, was honored with the Leading Light Award for commitment to the wellness of those inside and outside her organization.
