(Updated) Cuming County Emergency Manager Bernie Hunke Passes Away

Bernie Hunke, Cuming County Emergency Manager and Veterans Services Officer passed away Saturday at his family farm.  His wife Lisa confirmed the death.


A Mass of Christian Burial for 53-year-old  Bernie Hunke, of West Point,  will be on Thursday, February 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Father Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery-Monterey, in rural West Point. Visitation will be on Wednesday from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There will be a Vigil Service with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the church.



Bob Wostoupol will be filling in at the Veteran’s Service Office until a new director can be appointed.  He says local businesses and residents are requested to fly the American flag on Thursday, February 14th in honor of Bernie.




The Cuming County Veteran’s Service Office in West Point will be closed this week and reopen Monday, February 18th with limited services.
