Cold Weather Continues to Impact Area

Overnight temperatures Tuesday ranged from -30 Fahrenheit in rural portions of northeast Nebraska to -28 in West Point.

Many area schools were either closed or had late starts.

Rolling power outages began before 8 o’clock Tuesday morning.

Beemer, Norfolk, Wisner and Oakland were some of the first communities impacted.

AM 840 KTIC in West Point was knocked of the air at 8:35 Tuesday morning.

KTIC was still off the air at mid-morning, and engineers suspected the power outage and bitterly cold weather might have caused other  problems at the radio station  tower and transmitter.

Many of the planned outages in Nebraska were lasting longer than expected, as power companies struggled to restore electricity to grids.

Though it’ll still be cold, the record-breaking Arctic air will be moving out of the area by Wednesday.
