Classes to be held at Northeast in Norfolk in July

NORFOLK, Neb. – A class will be held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk that will teach the basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age in a long-term care facility.

Nurse Aide (NURA 1110/20A & CRN #30792) will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays, from July 6-August 3, from 5-10 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 115. Jessica Miller is the instructor. The course (NURA 1110/20A & CRN #30798) will also be offered Mondays-Thursdays, July 6-July 29, from 4:30-9:30 p.m., in the same location with Genny Blackburn the instructor.

This three-credit course is designed to meet the Nebraska Health and Human Services System training requirements for nurse aide certification and employment in long-term care facilities. It combines classroom lecture and laboratory application for the development of basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age, in a long-term care facility.

Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing the examination and completing the application procedure, their names will be placed on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.

Cost of each course is $366. An additional $45 fee will be required if a student chooses to register to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam at the end of the course. The $45 fee will be required at the time of the non-credit exam registration. NORFOLK, Neb. – Northeast Community College will offer a course in basic IV therapy in July.

Basic IV Therapy (NURS 5135/20F & CRN #60107) will be held Tuesday, July 14, from 8 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. in the J. Paul and Eleanor McIntosh College of Nursing, Room 240. Dr. Karen Weidner is the instructor.

Upon conclusion of the course, learners will identify legal issues and scope of practice changes related to IV therapy and explore best practices related to IV therapy (peripheral and central care). This activity, worth 8.5 contact hours, has been submitted to the Washington State Nurses Association Approver of Continuing Nursing Education (A-CNE) for approval to award contact hours. The Washington State Nurses Association Approver of Continuing Nursing Education (A-CNE) is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Cost of the class is $85.

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a one-credit CPR Instructor Course beginning soon.

The course (HLTH 1720/20F & CRN #30797) will meet Wednesday, July 15, from 6-10 p.m., and Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 124, on the Northeast campus.

CPR instructor training for those currently qualified in basic life support. This one-credit course includes background materials, teaching techniques and aids to enable individuals to instruct others in the knowledge of local emergency care systems, understanding risk factors, signals and actions for survival, and recognition of indications for life support and accurate performance of the same.

Class participants must have a current AHA BLS CPR card. The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop, which is located in the Library/Resources Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Brock Soderberg the instructor, is $122.

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College has scheduled a Heartcode – Advanced Cardiac Life Support class in March.

The class will be held twice – (HLTH 5505/20F & CRN #60109) on Thursday, July 16, from 12-3:30 p.m., and (HLTH 5505/20F & CRN #60110 on Tuesday, July 28, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Both classes will be held in the Nebraska Room at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Ave., in Norfolk.

This course encompasses knowledge and techniques which are utilized in the definitive management of a cardiac arrest or similar life-threatening emergency. It is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 is web-based and accessible 24 hours a day, provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified American Heart Association (AHA) instructor. When Part 1 is completed, students should register for the Skills Sessions and bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 is to be completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

The Online key code for Part 1 is SKU #10147313 and is available at the Northeast Hawks Shop (college store) in the Library/Resource Center or call (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Students need to bring their AHA Part 1 Advanced Cardiac Life Support Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.
