(AUDIO) NPPD urging caution around power lines

June 17th, 2020 | Beth Rogers

NPPD reports several recent electrical contacts between power lines and farm equipment that have taken place in recent weeks. Media Relations Specialist Grant Otten says none of the incidents have been serious, but that doesnt mean serious injuries cant occur later on.

An incident took place on Friday where a boom sprayer made contact with a 115kilovolt power line.

Otten says the incidents caused a couple of outages that NPPD was able to respond to very quickly.

Otten says there is the potential for a big power outage for Distribution Customers.

Otten discusses safety around power lines.

Otten says if having to exit a vehicle due to fire in the equipment or power line, get to the edge of the vehicle and jump away from the vehicle, land on both feet, never touch the ground and vehicle at the same time, and shuffle as far away as possible.

Otten says to contact NPPD, call 1-877-ASK-NPPD, or call 911 in an emergency.
