Benkelman, Neb. — Residents of Benkelman in southwest Nebraska have been told to evacuate.
The Dundy County Emergency Manager says a large wildfire is moving southeast toward the community.
Residents are urged to evacuate to the east or to the west of town. They are urged to use caution due to low visibility due to smoke according to the National Weather Service at Goodland, Kansas.

SMOKE FROM THE FIRE HAS CAUSED VISIBILITY TO BE NEAR ZERO IN SPOTS. DO NOT DRIVE ON HIGHWAY 34 TOWARD BENKELMAN. ANY ADDITIONAL TRAFFIC WILL HAMPER EFFORTS TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND HINDER EVACUATION EFFORTS.
