WAYNE – Wayne State College senior thrower Michaela Dendinger was named the NSIC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following her performance in last weekend’s Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln. It’s the first time this season that Dendinger has received Athlete of the Week honors.
Dendinger, a graduate of Hartington Public HS, recorded an NCAA automatic mark in the shot put and won the weight throw Friday and Saturday at the Nebraska Graduate Classic. Her mark of 51’ 8 ¼” was second amongst a strong Division I field and now ranks as the top throw in NCAA Division II this season. Dendinger won the weight throw with a distance of 62’ 6 ¾” and is now tied for third in NCAA Division II.
Wayne State will be in action again on Friday at the South Dakota State Open in Brookings, South Dakota starting at 2 p.m.
