WSC Volleyball sweeps Minnesota Crookston

#1 Wayne State had just one attack error and posted a .453 hitting percentage to roll past Minnesota Crookston 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball Friday evening at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minnesota.  The Wildcats improve to 25-1 and stay perfect in the NSIC with a 16-0 league mark while the host Golden Eagles drop to 3-20 and 1-14 in league play. 

The first set was close early with WSC holding an 8-7 lead, the ‘Cats got kills from Maggie Brahmer and back-to-back kills by Taya Beller for an 11-7 advantage to force a Golden Eagle timeout.  Later in the set the ‘Cats scored eight straight points to take control and finish with a 25-13 set win. 

WSC hit a sizzling .600 in the opening set with 18 kills.  Brahmer had seven kills on eight attacks in the opening set while Beller recorded five kills and two service aces. 

The second set saw WSC open with an 8-0 lead, highlighted by a pair of Jordan McCormick service aces, and the ‘Cats cruised to a 25-14 set victory.

Kelsie Cada and Beller each posted four kills in the second set followed by freshman Channatee Robles with three.  As a team, WSC hit .565 in the set with 13 kills and no errors on 23 attempts.

13 Wildcats saw action in the third set as WSC capped the sweep with a 25-15 set win.

WSC had four service aces and forced seven Minnesota Crookston attack errors in the final set. 

Beller had a team-high three kills in the set while service aces were recorded by Cada, Beller, Rachel Walker and Robles.

Wayne State finished the match hitting .453 with 40 kills and just one attack error on 86 attacks while Minnesota Crookston had a .149 percentage on 30 kills and 15 errors on 101 attempts.

The ‘Cats held a 51-41 advantage in digs and had the only two blocks of the contest.  WSC had nine service aces to three for the Golden Eagles.

Beller’s 12 kills and three service aces led a balanced Wildcat attack followed by Brahmer with 11 kills.  Kelsie Cada just missed a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs and two service aces. 

Senior libero Jordan McCormick notched a team-best 15 digs and had two aces. 

Wayne State concludes their NSIC road trip Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. contest at Bemidji State.
