YORK – The Panthers kicked off their 2018 season with a bang out-shooting the Doane University Tigers 18-5 en route to a 2-1 win. Amber Jimenez (SO/Gilbert, Ariz) found the back of the net after a corner kick by Justine Medina (JR/Fontana, Calif) found Madison Kinney (SR/Council Bluffs, Iowa). Kinney then relayed the ball to Jimenez would sliced her shot past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.

York dominated the first half offensively with 13 shots, seven of which were on frame, while the Tigers didn’t register any shot in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Tigers were able to find the back of the net in the 66th minute thanks to a penalty kick by Kendall Meyer. A push in the back by a Panther defender was whistled dead and allowed Doane to knot the score at one a piece.

Andrea Cadavid (FR/Cali, Colombia) scored the game winner for the Panthers in the 78th minute of play. Stella Newman (JR/Livingston, Mont) gained control of the ball at midfield and fed a through ball 20 yards up to Cadavid. Cadavid dribbled at a defender and then ripped a shot from 30 yards out and sailed it over the Tiger’s keeper into the back of the net.

York was able to keep Doane at bay the final 12 minutes of play and earn the win in front of a nice home crowd. Cassandra Martinez(JR/Madera, Calif) picked up the win in goal for the Panthers.

York will host Briar Cliff on Saturday at the Cornerstone Sports Complex. Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m.
