The No. 1 Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team finished off the southern Colorado 3-day trip by sweeping Trinidad State Junior College Saturday afternoon.
Lara Picht led the way in the win, pounding down 18 kills in leading the Cougars to the 25-20, 25-16, 25-22 win in the Region IX South conference match.
The win pushes the Cougars to 23-3 and the Cougars finish the weekend trip going 2-1. WNCC fell to Otero Junior College on Thursday to start the trip in four games before sweeping Lamar Community College on Friday.
Picht was the only Cougar with double-digit kills on Saturday, tallying her 18 while hitting.483 for the game. Picht also had two assist blocks, three points, and nine digs.
Brooke Kaawa was the only Cougar with a double-double. The freshman from Hawaii finished with 12 points and 14 digs. Kaawa also had eight kills, two assist blocks, two set assists, and two ace serves.
Barbara Briceno finished with eight kills, two assist blocks, four points, and seven digs.
Kaylee Spreier also had a well-rounded match, finishing with six kills while hitting .307. The Gering graduate also had two assist blocks, 10 points, and two digs.
Also for the Cougars, Kadara Marshall had three kills, and four digs; Bia Berta had 32 set assists, a kill, five points, and five digs; Kirstee Trees had four digs and two points; Danika Daum had two set assists, a service point, and a dig; Lauren Shaul had four points; Genesis Benitez-Fontanez had a dig; and Alwaise Villa had two digs.
WNCC will have three matches next week. The Cougars travel to Sterling, Colorado, on Wednesday to face Northeastern Junior College before returning home to face McCook on Thursday and Casper College Saturday afternoon.
