After going for nearly three years without a win the Minden Whippets won their second game in a row, beating Southern Valley 21-8.
Eddy Gonzalez and Chase Smith led the way for Minden with 78 yards and 70 yards and a touchdown respectively on the ground. Sophomore signal-caller Elijah Lovin threw for 94 yards and ran for a touchdown.
Minden took an early 14-0 lead after scoring the first two times they got the ball. Southern Valley got on the board when Trent Krejdl blocked a punt out of the back of the endzone giving the Eagles two points on a safety. Lucas Lans scored later in the half, but the score was called back because of a penalty and Southern Valley failed to score again in the half. It was 14-2 at halftime.
Southern Valley wc capitalized on a Whippet miscue when Beau Bailey picked off a Lovin pass to give the Eagles the ball on the five. Drake Schearer scored from there to make it 14-8 going into the fourth quarter.
Minden scored in the fourth on a Smith three-yard run. Then would run out the clock on their next drive to end the game.
The Whippets move to 2-1 on the season and Southern Valley falls to 0-3.
