West Point attends Special Olympics Fall Games in Lincoln

West Point attends Special Olympics Fall Games in Lincoln

On Friday, West Point participated in unified softball winning the gold medal. This was West Points first year participating in Unified Softball winning their first game over the Minden Purple 7-0. In the second game West Point lost to Minden Purple 4-6 put scored more points to earn the gold. Members on the softball team are unified partners- Travis Heller, Stacy Schlickbernd, Marisa Stoffel and Hannah Stoffel. Athletes playing unified softball were Jonathon Brune, Brandon Priestley, Jose Rodriguez, James Meiergerd, Brody Schlickbernd, Carter Bramlet and Ryan Polenske.

On Saturday, West Point participated in doubles and unified doubles bocce.

Jonathon Brune and Ryan Polenske won gold. West Point won their first match 11-9 over Grand Island and their second match 12-0 over Kearney.

Brandon Priestley and Brody Schlickbernd won silver. First match West Point won 9-7 over Hastings and lost to the Capitol City Chameleons 5-12 in the finals.

James Meiergerd and Jose Rodriguez won bronze. In their first match West Point lost to the Capitol City Chameleons 4-12 and in their second came won 12-7 over the Lincoln Shooting Stars 12-7.

In Unified doubles bocce, Carter Bramlet and Stacy Schlickbernd won silver. In their first match West Point won 12-4 over the Cordle Champs of Blair, and in the finals West Point lost to the Gillespie Guys of Blair 7-10.

On Sunday, West Point participated in Soccer and Unified Golf.

Soccer won the bronze medal after losing both matches. In their first match West Point lost to Kearney 1-2 and in their second match lost to Papillion/ LaVista 0-8.

Members of the soccer team are Brandon Priestley, Jonathon Brune, Jose Rodriguez, Brody Schlickbernd, James Meiergerd and Carter Bramlet.

Unified golf earned bronze on Sunday. Participating in golf were athlete Tencie Tonniges and partner Barb Rolf.

West Point’s next contest is a Flag Football Invitational at Elkhorn Mt. Michael in September.
