UNK Women’s Basketball Squad Looks To Get Back On Track

UNK Women’s Basketball Squad Looks To Get Back On Track

It’s been nine days since the Univerisity of Nebraska at Kearney Women’s basketball team has hit the hardwood, and that was a loss to 24th ranked Emporia State Univerisity 72-64. Prior to that game, it was a loss on Tuesday, December 4th to now 6th ranked Fort Hays State on the road 62-53. The encouraging takeaway from those two games is that this young UNK team can compete with anyone.

Today, UNK will look to bounce back against Nebraska Christian and get back to their winning ways and improve that 5-4 record to 6-4 before the Holiday Break. This game looks to be a game that could be a confidence builder for UNK heading into the break. Nebraska Christian is in the National Christian College Conference and so far this season their record is 5-11. The majority of the games they have played have been reasonably close. The Sentinels latest game was on Thursday and they fell to Waldorf 77-66.

Nebraska Christian comes in averaging 63.1 points per game while allowing 66.6 points per contest. As a team, they are shooting 39.8% from the field and 27% from three-point range. Their main issue on the offensive end is turning the ball over. They turn the ball over on average 23 times per game, resulting in easy buckets for their opponents.

Senior Kayla Bloodworth will be the primary threat against UNK as the senior is having a great season. She has posted a 15.8 point per game average along with 11.6 rebounds. Stopping a player that averages a double-double will be extremely tough for the Lopers. Jazmyne Santiel will also be a threat as she is pouring in 15.6 points per game while shooting 32.8% from three-point range. UNK will have the limit those two players production to grab a victory at home today.

For UNK, they continue to be led by freshman Shiloh McCool at 10.8 points per game and on the glass with 6.7 rebounds per game also. As of late, sophomore Kelsey Sanger has been playing well as she is averaging 10 points per game. She has also been getting more takeaways as she is just over one steal per game.

This is a good matchup for UNK before heading into the Holiday break, and nine days seems like an eternity since hitting the hardwood, so the Lady Lopers have to be excited to compete today.  The game can be heard 93.1 The River with coverage starting at 1:50 P.M.
