Kearney, Neb. – The Chadron State Eagles used balanced offensive attack and held Nebraska-Kearney to 34 percent shooting in a 70-55 win Thursday night in Chadron. CSC improves to 2-2 while UNK falls to 1-2. This marks the second straight season Chadron has downed the Lopers. Leading for most of the night, the Eagles got 18 points from 5-10, 155 pound junior reserve guard Michael Sparks, 10 from 6-7, 245 pound reserve redshirt freshman forward Jacob Jefferson and 14 points from 6-8, 250 pound starting senior center Charles Gavin. Amazingly the home standing Eagles won despite not attempting a single free throw.

UNK made 9 of its 15 freebies. Chadron scored 14 of t first 18 points and never looked back, leading by as many as 14 in the first half and 25 in the second. UNK got off to a cold start, sinking 10 of its first 32 shots (2 of 10 threes). Losing the rebounding battle by just one, the Lopers warmed up just a bit in the second half. Freshman Kanon Koster (Kearney H.S.) led UNK in scoring for a third straight contest, making 6 of 11 shots and all three free throws he attempted to end with 15. He also had five rebounds (four defensive), one of 11 Lopers to snag a board tonight. Next, freshman Henry Penner (Aurora) came off the bench to go 3 of 5 from behind the arc to score 11 with sophomore Austin Luger (Alliance) at six points and four rebounds. Finally, junior forward AJ Jackson (Bellevue West) had five offensive rebounds and four points. UNK hosts Colo.-Colo. Springs Saturday at noon.
