Needing a win in the worst of ways the Gering volleyball team was up to the task, winning in five games over Alliance at home on Tuesday night.
The finals were 18-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, and 15-11.
After the match Gering Head Coach Dave Lashley was pleased that his team was finally able to close out some games late, something he said they’ve struggled with all season long.
Britney Spreier was the Taco John’s player of the game. Lashley called her a steadying hand on the court all night long. Spreier finished with 32 set assists, 8 kills, and 12 digs.
McKenzie Dunkel also played well with 12 kills and 15 digs while Kourtney Schanaman tallied 18 digs.
Gering improves to 5-18, that was just their second win of the year against a team from Nebraska.
Alliance fell to 9-8.
Both teams were playing shorthanded. For Gering, junior Victoria Schwartz is out for the season with a broken foot. Alliance was without their top player, sophomore Emerson Cyza, who missed the match with a broken thumb.
Gering plays next at Western Conference in Scottsbluff on Saturday.
Alliance will prep for Western Conference with a road match at Sidney Thursday night.
