Tekamah-Herman Juniors/Seniors split opening games

Tekamah-Herman Juniors & Seniors got their season off on the right
foot with a huge win on the road as they defeated Ponca 5-2 in eight
innings on Tuesday, May 22.

Clay Beaumont led things off on the mount for T-H. He surrendered
one run on two hits over 4.1 innings while striking out nine batters and only giving up one walk. Gavin Noel came on to pitch the next 1.2  batters before Chauncey Rogers came on to pitch the final two innings to get the win. The game was tied at 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning before Dylan Chatt drilled a double on a 2-0 count to break the tie. Jed Hoover cracked a 2RBI-HR to lead the offense. Hoover, Chatt, Jordan Derra, Gavin Enstrom, Luke Wakehouse & Kody Bitter each hit safely.

The Seniors defeated Ponca by the same score of 5-2. Nate Olson
pitched the win, going 4.1 innings while allowing two hits, one run,
striking out four. Dillan Beaumont came on relief before Drew Schmidt came in to record the final six outs and earn the save. Schmidt, Olson & Robby Mayberry each collected two hits apiece to lead the offense. Schmidt’s two hits included a double. Brandon Schram scored two runs while Schmidt, Luke Wakehouse & Justyn Hale each scoring one run.

Things weren’t as fortunate the next night in their 2018 home opener as Wayne blew the game open early in a 23-1 win over the T-H Juniors. Chauncey Rogers took the loss as he & Jordan Derra had the only hits for the offense.
The Seniors had a much better showing, however a close play at the
plate had them coming a run short in a 6-5 loss to Wayne. Drew Schmidt took the loss for T-H. Brandon Schram & Nate Olson each collected two hits to lead the offense, with Schram scoring two runs. Schram also drove  in two runs on a double in the seventh inning to bring the Tigers to within  6-5 before the game ended on a close play at first base. Wayne had led 6-1 midway through the fifth before Tekamah-Herman began their  comeback.

Tekamah-Herman returns to action on Friday (25), traveling to Battle Creek as part of a three-game roadtrip. After the Memorial Day weekend they return to action at Arlington on Tuesday (29) and at Columbus Lakeview on Thursday (31) before returning to Veteran’s Field to host West Point on Friday, June 1. The Tekamah-Herman Juniors & Seniors this season are coached by Jason Hoover, Bob Paul, Quentin Connealy, Rod Schmidt & Brett Fleischman.
