Scottsbluff at McCook tops Friday night schedule

Scottsbluff at McCook.

Tradition. Talent. Excellent coaching staffs. Great teams year after year.

Just some of the things that come to mind when you talk about two of the more consistent high school football programs in Class B.

Scottsbluff will head into this one tonight still undefeated at 5-0 while the Bison are licking their wounds from that first loss of the season last week, 20-11 to York. McCook at 4-1.

Another thing that’s a fact about these two programs? There’s a deep level of respect, here’s McCook Head Coach Jeff Gross.

And likewise here’s Scottsbluff Head Coach Joe Benson.

We’ll see if the Scottsbluff defense can continue what they’ve been doing, allowing less than seven points a game over their last three outings. Benson says they’ll have their hands full with quarterbacks Zach Schlager and Easton Gillen.

Offensively, Scottsbluff is averaging just over 330 yards rushing per game while the McCook defense only allows 170 yards of total offense per game.

Scottsbluff at McCook tonight can be heard on 94.1 The Brand and starting at 5:15 with kickoff at 6 p.m.

Elsewhere it’s Gering on the road at Lexington. Both teams still searching for that first win of the season.

Bulldogs Head Coach Todd Ekart believes they have what it takes to get the road win but it sounds like he thinks some early success tonight might be needed for his team to believe they can grab the programs first win in over three years.

Lexington has a tendency to put the ball on the ground and be a little turnover prone. That could play a big factor in the outcome of this one.

Gering at Lexington tonight on KNEB AM 960 and starting at 5:15, that one kicks at 6 p.m. also.

The KNEB.TV game of the week features 2-3 Bridgeport at 0-5 Kimball. Bridgeport coming off a win last Saturday against Bayard while Kimball played tough in a road loss to state ranked Hershey.

If you’re an ALLO TV subscriber you can also watch the KNEB.TV game of the week on ALLO channel 15. Coverage will start at 6:50 with kickoff at 7 p.m.

On The Beet at tonight it’s the area game of the week with Bayard hosting North Platte St. Pat’s. Kickoff for that one is at 6:30 with pregame starting online at 5:45.
