SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha pitcher Payton Kinney earned Summit League Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance yesterday in the series sweep over North Dakota State.
The honor marks the second of the season and a career-third for the right-handed slinger from Firth, Neb.
In the second game of the series against the Bison, Kinney tossed a career-high 11 strikeouts through 8.0 shutout innings with one hit and three walks allowed. He is now at 25 consecutive shutout innings this season and posts a league-best 4-0 record. In the game, the Mavericks went on to win 3-0.
The senior also has a 0.58 ERA this season, which is the best in The Summit League and ranks 11th nationally.
Kinney previously won the award Feb. 25 of this year, and fellow teammate Joey Machado earned the honor last week (March 11). This is also the third time in four weeks that an Omaha pitcher has won The Summit League weekly honor.
The Mavericks continue the home stretch this weekend with a three-game series against Purdue Fort Wayne this Friday, March 22-Sunday, March 24. For more information, visit OMavs.com.
