Omaha Women drop decision to Bradley

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women’s basketball team fell 80-60 to Bradley on Friday afternoon at Sapp Fieldhouse.  The Mavericks are now 5-5 on the season, while the Braves improved to 8-0.

Leaders for Omaha
Elena Pilakouta led three Omaha players in double figures, finishing with 14 points.  Pilakouta added a team-high nine rebounds, two assists and a block.  Rayanna Carter shot 5-of-11 en route to 12 points.  Josie Filer chipped in 10 points and seven boards.

Leaders for Bradley
Bradley’s Lasha Petree scored a game-high 28 points on 9-of-16 shooting with six 3-pointers.  Gabi Haack had 14 points and five rebounds, while Nyjah White scored 13 points.  Chelsea Brackmann added 10 points, eight boards, five assists, and three steals.

Team Stats
Bradley shot 45.5 percent (30-of-66) from the field compared to Omaha’s 41.1 percent (23-of-56).  The Mavericks were perfect at the free throw line (11-of-11), while the Braves shot 73.3 percent (11-of-15).  BU connected on 39.1 percent (9-of-23) of its 3-pointers compared to UNO’s 23.1 percent (3-of-13).

Omaha held a 37-34 advantage on the boards.

Inside the First Half
The Mavericks shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) in the first quarter.  Pilakouta and Carter each scored four points to lead Omaha.  Sophie Johnston’s 3-pointer with 5:15 remaining gave UNO a 7-4 lead.  Back-to-back three’s from Petree put Bradley in front 12-11 with under four minutes left in the quarter.  Pilakouta and Mariah Murdie each scored in the paint to close out the quarter and give Omaha a 12-12 advantage.

Bradley shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field with four 3-pointers in the second quarter to outscore Omaha 26-13.  Two Filer free throws and a Pilakouta jumper gave the Mavericks their largest lead of the game, 19-12.  The Braves finished the quarter with a 14-2 run to lead 38-28 at halftime.

Inside the Second Half
Omaha was limited to two field goals in the third period as Bradley extended its lead to 23 points.  The Mavericks closed out the period with a 4-0 run to trail 57-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

Omaha cut Bradley’s lead to 67-55 near the midway point of the fourth quarter on five quick points by Murdie.  The Braves countered with a 13-5 surge to close the game for the 80-60 victory.
